to be thankful

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I thought I would put together this look as inspiration for the big feast day. Whether you have formal dinner plans or just want to look grown up in hopes of not spending yet another year at the kids table (even though you're now in or past your twenties), this dress is perfect for the season. The color makes me swoon - not too bright of a red but more of a toned down burgundy. I love to pair pops of color like this with neutrals for a more sophisticated look. This could also work with black or even other fall colors such as burnt orange or army green. However you choose to wear it, it is sure to look stunning.

Thanksgiving is a time when the term "thankful" becomes more of a cliche than an actual feeling or goal. What does it mean to be thankful? Is it just to reflect on the things that we are happy to have? That's definitely part of it, but I want to say that it's even more than that. To be thankful is to take the things that we might not be so thrilled about or that cause stress or that we might not be thankful for at all and finding the good, beneficial parts of that. Take a moment to complain about anything you can think of. Then go back and list the positive aspects. Say you complain about your job. Customers are rude, bosses might not be so cheery, etc. Now think: you have something to do, that you are capable of doing along with a source of income. Even if it may not be as much money as you'd like, it's still something to get by. Or maybe you are still out looking for a job. Well, right now you have this time to focus on things that you wouldn't have time for if you worked, such as spending time with family or working on a craft that you enjoy. You may be stuck in traffic, but that means that you have a car that works and a place to go. You're in a fight with a loved one, but at least you have someone in your life that you care about enough to have disagreements that could work to strengthen the relationship.
Even if something looks incredibly bleak and miserable, there is still a part of it to be thankful for.
This doesn't mean that you can't complain. Go ahead, it's a natural thing to do. As long as you follow it up with the encouraging features that further your thankfulness. This isn't a very natural thing to do as a human. It's difficult to find something to be thankful about in certain situations. But, keeping this in minds helps to ward off bitterness that results in dwelling on the negative parts of life.

I'm thankful for the good days.
Too often we find ourselves thinking and complaining about how bad a day was. But, how frequently in relation to this do we look back and say, "wow, that was a decent day"?
It shouldn't take much to make a day good. Listening to your favorite tunes on your way to meet a friend for coffee. Long chats with good people. Air conditioning - or heat for those in the cooler states. Going for a nice run. Doing a satisfactory level of work. Snoozing in bed for that extra 10 minutes - we've all been there. Even the smallest things can act as treats and make a day not so bad.

I, myself, am thankful for the days that don't even have anything extraordinary happen but are still counted as good. The days when I have the freedom to drive out to a new coffee shop and spend quality time talking with a friend. The days when anxiety doesn't rule over me. The days when I can let loose and be myself. The days when I have the opportunity to slow down and remember how merciful my God is.

These are the good days. Not every day needs something magical or miraculous to happen in order for it to be good. It just needs a bit of positivity, hope, and thankfulness.
