Cue the lights, jazz music, sequin dresses, feathers, lipstick, stacks of pearls, and swing dancing.
The Gatsby themed party a couple of nights ago was all that and more.
It was a chance to get all dolled up and have a fancy night out on the town. No nonsense of raunchy, techno-filled clubs. Just a night back in the '20s, as everyone gathered together to mix and mingle stylishly. The atmosphere was light and refreshing.
Seriously, can we just replace clubs and go back to these kind of parties?
A couple danced the night away, as a musician played soft, fluent notes on the saxophone. As the night grew darker, people gathered in, some seemingly not have received the "Gatsby theme" memo and dressed up as miscellaneous Halloween costumes like a Dove soap bar. Men adorned in suits and ties stood off to the side, chatting away as the sequin-dress girls joined in the conversation. Outside on the steps alongside the giant pillars of the once court house, gents and ladies conversed in the warm night air while sipping on cocktails.
Little to say, the night ended too soon, but it was definitely an experience to carry with me that I hope to relive again. I would gladly spend a night out if it's a nice event like this.

The air filled with the Gatsby theme of hope. No matter how much he acquired, Gatsby continued to strive for what he couldn't have. And even though it ended in tragedy and love just out of reach, he carried within him a hope like none other. What we take from this story and that time of history is not only an era of glitz and glamour but a time in which people held on to their dreams, more specifically the American dream.

And so, despite the troubles and the struggle to make it to the top, regardless of the trials that come when you make it up there, we can always maintain a sense of hopeful expectation for what is yet to come.

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter—to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning——

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
