Being okay with not being okay. Finding peace in the unknown. Living when you don't know how.
It's all things that we learn and adapt along the way.

There's times like this that I just want to wish away. Nothing feels okay. I'm stuck in the gray, some kind of middle ground will it work out or will it fade. But it's times like this that most people don't see each other dealing with. What most of us see is the person on the other side of the struggle. And while it can be motivational to hear how they got to where they are now, sometimes I just want an inside look of how it felt and what they did in the midst of it.

If you're in the middle of the unknown, the hard part of the story, I want to give you hope. Even as I sometimes feel that lacking. It's hard, I know. You struggle to see past this time...how days, months, years from now it will all look different than how it is in the moment. What is this teaching you, where is this leading you, what will be the outcome? It's all questions we want to answer now.

But can I tell you something? You're most likely not going to find the answers yet. While you're still in the middle of it, just do your best to find peace in this. It's okay to feel what you're feeling. I know how it doesn't feel okay, but your feelings are valid and they hold true to you. Whether it's pain, heartache, confusion, confliction, anger, lost...these are all things that remind you of the human that you are. And that’s okay.

We're human and we're not always the ones in control of our situations. But, we can control how we handle the things that life brings us through. So feel every ounce of what you need to. And then, find peace in doing your best through this and in whatever the circumstance may bring. It could be more heartache, or it could be better days. But eventually, just like those we see who are on the other side, you will get there too.

It's okay if all you can bring yourself to do right now is the minimal. That's enough. I know it's said a lot and some find it kind of cliché, but God is working through this and He already knows the outcome. So while you can't bear to do much, He is holding the weight, working in better ways. Yes, it very well feels like such a hard thing. You don't know what's coming or how it will come to be. But the One whose hand is in everything, protecting, guiding, is making a way for you and for me.

So try to release the tight hold you have on things and give the situation and the burden up to Him. Full peace can only come with surrender of everything you've been feeling. Right now you don't know how it will work out, but because He does you can sit in tranquility until it begins to look up again. Finding peace begins with letting go of control.

And when the days look bleak, like there's nothing good up ahead, find the little things to look forward to. Plan a coffee date with a friend, put on that playlist that makes you feel nostalgic, dress up for no good reason or for a night on the town if you're feeling it. Look at the small things that remind you of how good it is to be alive and incorporate them into your day to day life. Every day should be filled with the little things, especially in times when you're longing for peace.

Right now it might not feel okay, but that is okay. Because as long as you choose peace in the situation you're in, you can get through any circumstance.

"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

Content creating, blogging, influencing....whichever you may call it.
This is a world that I've been in for over 5 years. Through the course of time, I've learned and experienced the pretty sides and even the not so pretty.

The topic has been on my mind to write for some time now. And as I first sat down to let it all out, the words just didn’t come. So for months longer I put it aside, thinking the words would come at some point. But they didn’t. Until I saw a video that described it better than I ever could.

It was about the side of entrepreneurship that most people don’t see. A girl crying and holding her head, staring off into space, dealing with all of the emotions that come with the many lows of this life we chose.

Some of the most common things I’ve been told are “at least you can work when you want to work…you can do what you want to do…you have a passion…how incredible it must be to do what you do!”

And while yes all of that is true, it is also coupled with a vast overlay of things many don’t see. It’s the crippling doubt that things might not ever work out, fear of not being good enough, not making it, of what others think because like it or not that often plays a large factor in an entrepreneur’s success. It’s the days of no motivation only to stay up all night working towards something because you’re too hard on yourself to sleep, self sabotaging for not having the energy to get enough done earlier.

It’s trying to find a schedule that works for you to get everything done that needs to be done while also trying to be flexible and say yes to everyone because you don’t want to miss out on life outside of this. It’s a to do list of things that are next to impossible to finish all in one day, but you write it down anyway only to be disappointed when just a few things are checked off at the end of the day. It’s figuring out how to stand up for your worth only to be asked to work for free, and you don’t want to miss out on an opportunity so next thing you know you’re working for hours, days, weeks on end for little to no pay…certainly not enough to even get by.

It’s feeling burnt out from always having to be “on” whether it’s being present on social media or looking your best in public because you’re a walking billboard for your business. It’s people asking why you don’t get a normal job instead because working for nothing just doesn’t make sense.

….but then it’s the little things that open the doors to something bigger that remind you of why you take every opportunity given. It’s the moments you never could have dreamt up and wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t say yes. It’s the words of encouragement and approval from others who see the worth in your work. It’s not having to be tied to something that takes the life out of you. It’s following your passion and being creative and making works of art that you’re proud of. It’s the peace of knowing you’re on the right path even if sometimes it doesn’t seem like it.

There will be days when you question everything, and others when it all makes sense. It’s the life of entrepreneurship. And I couldn’t imagine any different.

I've been doing a lot of self reflection lately - both figuratively and literally.
And this photo shoot was the perfect compliment as I sat down to write about it.

Waking up with a heavy heart, I felt triggered by insecurity that’s been weighing on me for years. As I wandered around the house wondering why it felt so heavy, it dawned on me that it wasn’t just a direct result from one situation but a burden that I’ve carried for so long without even knowing it.

The other day at church the pastor preached a message about finding the root of your insecurities. That thing that drives how you feel and react. In my case, I hold too much value in others’ opinions and what they think of me. So much that it can absolutely crush me at times.

And after hearing that message, I looked back in my life trying to find the root cause of this. At first it had been buried so deep in my memories that I struggled to find it. But then it became so clear there was no denying.

One of my root causes goes back to school days, when kids would make fun and call me names. I still remember how they talked about me and laughed right in front of my face as if I wasn’t even there. And I didn’t realize how much that would play a role in my later adult life. I thought changing schools, switching to online, “glowing up” would change me enough so that I wouldn’t have to live in that hurt anymore. But little did I know I was still carrying it with me, as it continuously shows up, rearing its ugly head in ways I didn’t even know were a result from it.

Then as I worried about losing someone else once again, feeling heavy beneath the weight I realized it wasn’t even because of my current situation that I felt like this. Turned out that wasn’t even it at all, just a fear and insecurity that crept up in me again. This was a result of others who had done that in years past. Each time someone would leave things unfinished, never to give any closure or tell me what happened, the sting from that burned the same place so much that it left a hole I’ve been trying to fill with acceptance from others.

I thought with those people I had moved on and made peace with it, but really I just tucked that insecurity deep in my bag, continuing to carry it with me.

And some days it’s fine, but others I find myself wandering, heavy from the weight of the bag that I never let go of.

I’m not sure where you are in life, or what that insecurity is for you that plays such a major part in how you go about your day to day and situations in which it flares up again. But just like how I did, I encourage you to find that root cause of it. It may be buried deep beneath things and difficult to find, but search within the memories of your life and you will better understand why that insecurity is so prevalent even in today’s time.

But after you find it, let’s not leave it there. I know it will be a work in progress, but let’s take hold of that root and pull it up so it no longer holds ground in your life. Although it can be so easy to do so, you aren’t meant to live in this burden that buried itself deep in your life.

Pull those weeds from the root, make real final peace with it, and plant flowers in their place that will grow into something beautiful. We aren’t designed to be living in the weeds but in the garden where God has called us to be.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
John 8:32
